Michelle Zhu (she/her) is a prae-doctoral researcher at the University of Vienna. She is supervised by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Sophie Lecheler (University of Vienna) and Dr. Ana Valdivia (University of Oxford). Her research focuses on developing fairness benchmarks for AI hiring systems and investigates how artificial intelligence is transforming work practices.
More broadly, her research centers around topics related to algorithmic fairness and digital humanism. Her work aims to critically assess how algorithms operate while calling for a socially and environmentally just AI development and deployment.
She holds her master’s degree in Social Science of the Internet from the University of Oxford and completed her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the London School of Economics. Previously, she has also worked in consulting and marketing roles in the UK tech industry.
